Two Way Play^® is dedicated to the encouraging of play between parents, or other important adults, and young children.

Studies have shown that interactive play between parents or caregivers and children, beginning at birth and continuing on into early childhood, contributes to the development of the child's personality, psychology, emotional life, self-esteem, and capacity for relating. The early years of life, particularly from birth through kindergarten or early elementary school, are formative years that set up a child's future. Child development experts believe that engagement and interactive play with children paves the way for them to become well-adjusted, resilient, competent, fulfilled, connected, and contributing adults.

This kind of play with children involves being fully present, responding back-and-forth, and elaborating something together in a spontaneous and organically unfolding way. This creates a shared experience that is unique to the participants

Interactive play, especially between parents and babies or young children, is a cornerstone of the foundation that children need in order to flourish, to understand themselves and others, to reach their potential, and to experience their lives and relationships as meaningful. As children get older, back-and-forth play with other important adults makes a significant contribution to their development as well.

Play is also a pathway for parents to build lifelong close and collaborative relationships with their children through the attunement, communication, understanding, and the joy that come with playing together.

Two Way Play^® provides books, app books, and games that are created to invite and nourish interaction between a child and a partner. These are matched to the child's stage of development. The books for babies and toddlers are simpler and contain repetition, rhymes, and familiar concepts, relationships, and images. Those for older children fit with their developmental needs involving more challenge and complexity of organization, recognition, differentiation, and nuance.
